Our New Carlton Rehabilitation and Nursing Center is located in one of Brooklyn's most advanced and historically established neighborhoods, Fort Greene. Dating back to as early as the seventeenth century, the neighborhood has stood strong through several dozens of historical events and aspects. In the earlier years, it was mainly populated by the several tribes of the Native American Algonquin Nation. With the coming of the early nineteenth century, however, it was purchased by the U.S government and after some cultivation, caused Brooklyn's overall population to rise from a mere 4,000 to an impressive 100,000. |
Fort Greene began to house many rich families, large farms, successful businesses, and after the outlawing of slavery, the very first school for African American children. It was quite clear that the neighborhood had proven itself to be of great potential by then, and by the early twentieth century it had gone so far that it achieved it's well-earned title as one of Brooklyn's most important cultural destinations.

During the mid nineteenth century, when Manhattan and Brooklyn became more crowded than ever, poor families as well as richer ones began to move to Fort Greene. Over time, the living conditions in the neighborhood only worsened, and in response to this, Walt Whitman, a famous American poet and journalist, called for the construction of what would later be known as the Fort Greene Park. Since then, the park has provided a more pleasant feel to the neighborhood and has greatly improved it's living conditions. Our New Carlton Rehabilitation and Nursing Center stands just two blocks away from this famous park. Now housing the Pratt Institute of Design, the Brooklyn Academy of Music, the Brooklyn Technical High School, and much more, Fort Greene has continued to grow in popularity and reputation. |
